Rudolf Adit

One of the most valuable mine workings in the Jílové mining district is the Rudolf Adit, also known as the Watchmaker's Adit. Originally driven in the 16th century, it was later operated by Christoph Margraf, the watchmaker of Emperor Rudolf II. The adit provided access to the near surface sections of the Šlojíř Vein, one of the area's historic gold bearing veins.

The Rudolf Adit is one of the oldest drainage adits in the Jílové mining district and is one of the few adits where several original masonry vaults have been preserved.

Our plan is to use the Rudolf Adit as the exit from the mine after completing the via ferrata route to the Upper Intermediate Level, 70 metres above the starting point, followed by a further 50 metre climb on ladders to the level of the Rudolf Adit. After leaving the adit, visitors would exit the Pepř Mine in the Studený Valley, high above the Žampaš Viaduct.

To complete this project, approximately 150 metres of the collapsed adit along the Šlojíř Vein must be excavated, a task that cannot be funded from our own financial resources. Once completed, it will create a truly unique visitor route combining adrenaline, mining history and spectacular underground scenery. The experience will continue above ground through the beautiful Kocourská Ravine, passing the historic adits of the Kocourské mining area and ending beneath the impressive Žampaš Viaduct.
